Five New Online Degree Programs Launching in Early 2011

Full Sail expands its online offerings with degrees in Creative Writing for Entertainment, Digital Cinematography, Mobile Development, New Media Journalism, and Sports Marketing & Media.

Full Sail University is proud to announce the launches of five new online degree programs: the Creative Writing for Entertainment Bachelor of Fine Arts, the Digital Cinematography Bachelor of Science, the Mobile Development Bachelor of Science, and the Sports Marketing & Media Bachelor of Science are launching February 2011, and the New Media Journalism Master of Arts will be launching March 2011.

The new 32-month Creative Writing for Entertainment Bachelor of Fine Arts online degree explores the integral role that writing plays in a variety of different mediums in the entertainment industry, including film, television, gaming, animation, and more. The degree program’s courses focus on essential creative writing concepts such as storyboarding and scriptwriting, the exploration of genres and literary devices, and transmedia storytelling.

“The Creative Writing for Entertainment Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is designed for media-savvy storytellers who have a lot of ideas and can’t wait to do something with them,” says Jon Craig, Director, Liberal Arts. “Students in this program are getting an in-depth education that can prepare them for a career in many different areas of the entertainment industry.”

The Digital Cinematography Bachelor of Science online degree program is designed to give students the tools and skills needed to become digital asset creators for mediums such as broadcast, web design, independent film, and other forms of production that utilize visual components. Throughout the course of the 32-month program, students will learn to shoot and edit digital films, commercials, documentaries, webcasts, and more.

“Digital technology is in a state of constant evolution,” says Rick Ramsey, Director, Visual Arts. “Graduates of this program are going to be better equipped to handle working in this medium, with or without their own crew, and really be able to create great art in this format.”

The Mobile Development Bachelor of Science online degree program explores the programming and design fundamentals needed to develop interactive content for a variety of different mobile platforms. Students in the program will learn programming languages used throughout the industry, including JavaScript, PHP, and XHTML, as well as specialized development kits for popular mobile platforms like iOS and Android.

“The most successful people in any industry are the ones who can bridge the gap between design and development. With this degree, we’ve created a blend of both the left and right brain,” says Bill Galbreath, Director, Design & Technology. “Students are going to get a really good foundation so that they can extend their knowledge as technology continues to change. That’s one of the competitive advantages that Full Sail grads have, because there aren’t many other programs that teach all of the things that we do.”

Students in the Sports Marketing & Media Bachelor of Science online degree program will develop an understanding of content creation and marketing principles as they relate to the world of sports within the entertainment industry.

“Sports teams and organizations are looking for creative thinkers who are able to operate in a whole new paradigm,” says Program Director Josh Mora. “Professionals who are looking to succeed in this industry need to be able to bridge the gap between the traditional sports marketing world and the ever-evolving world of media and technology. Graduates from this program will be equipped with the tools needed to flourish in a variety of positions in the sports industry.”

Students in the program will also study a variety of industry-specific topics, including global sports marketing strategies, sports sales and sponsorships, sports law and contracts, and sports licensing and intellectual property.

The New Media Journalism Master of Arts online degree program provides students with a curriculum that combines the concepts of traditional journalism with the new opportunities afforded by advances in communication technology. Over the course of the 12-month program, students will explore the advanced skills required for reporting in the digital era.

“There is clearly a need in the industry for professionals who understand how to communicate an idea or story through many different outlets,” says Pat Bishop, Director, Business Schools. “The courses in this program are going to help students understand how to create content geared towards those outlets, and prepare them to be up to speed with all of the new media tools that are available today.”
